Reading | Literacy can help your child get to know sounds, words and language, and develop early literacy skills, spark your child’s imagination and stimulate curiosity. Help your child’s brain, social skills and communication skills develop.
Reading with friends and sharing stories is very important for the development of young learners. Reading allows children to be transported from their own world to another. Between the pages of a book, they can become immersed in the lives of fictional characters and learn about a culture entirely different from their own. They can also learn new words and phrases, experience a range of emotions, and acquire skills and knowledge.
Need I point out how important it is for a child to be able to read functionally by Grade 4. How can we expect our children to perform and obtain good marks if they cannot understand what they are reading? Is it a wonder that many of them do not manage to complete the exam paper? It takes too long to understand the question for them to answer it as well.
