Born in Johannesburg, and schooled in Natal, only to make my way down to the food mecca of South Africa as an adult to study and enter the world of cheffing.
I have spent time under Michelin starred Chefs Jurgen Schneider and Gregory Czarnecki at Springfontein and The Restaurant at Waterkloof respectively. I was a part of the original team that opened La Petite Colombe under Chefs Scot Kirton, James Gaag and John Norris-Rogers which won best new restaurant in the country, third the following year and sixth most recently. Other notable kitchens I have worked in include La Colombe (James Gaag; number 1 restaurant in RSA) and La Tete (Giles Edwards; top ten restaurant).
The weekends and holidays of my youth were spent on trout, dairy, beef, game and citrus farms as well as in the West Coast and Overberg regions. This is where my connection to food starts; both there and with my family, who are food obsessed. My grandmother (W.Myburgh) was, in fact, a Cordon Bleu educated chef who published _A Table at the Cape.
I now run an ethically, locally sourced bistro establishment with Rickey Broekhoven (Newton and Johnson) in Tulip coffee, Hermanus.
